Old Ricohflex Model Vll 120 film camera FOR SALE

Its getting close to Christmas and I was browsing eBay looking for something to add to my Christmas list when I came across a Ricohflex Model V11 120 film camera. Its on Ebay for auction and starting at a very reasonable price plus the seller is 'throwing' in a 120 film, bargain.
The camera looks like it needs a little attention but does not sound as if there is much wrong, just the usual wear from 'old' age. The seller accept returns and at this price, as long as you are not expecting a 'brand' new camera (some do!), then I am sure that there would be no need to return. Looking at there feedback, they have over 300 over the last twelve months and no 'negatives' (scuse the pun) which is always a good sign.
This usually means the 'seller' may know a thing or two about 'old film cameras' so less chance of any misunderstandings, I have just added them to my favourites and maybe one day in the future I will 'treat' myself to another old film camera.
I should state at this point that I am in no way affiliated or connected with this seller and only telling you whats 'out there', if you are prepared to look. If anyone 'wins' this camera then please let me know how you get on and it would be great to see some photo's when you get the film developed.

The one bit of information I got from this sellers 'listing' was a company who develop old film and at a very reasonable price, looks like I can almost afford to get those 'old' films developed after all:-) I have given up on attending the 'darkroom' course at college because the course is always cancelled due to not enough interest?

The seller does have other film cameras and they all look good, I am tempted but at the moment cannot afford to buy cameras. The main reason is because I am developing my 'other' website selling old prints and ephemera, another 'passion' of mine.

Polaroid "The button" Vintage Land Camera

Old Polaroid Land Camera "The Button" photographs with and without flash unit. A very collectible old camera and getting rarer by the day. These old film cameras are still around and always worth buying in my opinion, even as a 'retro' ornament.
I have seen them sell for 'good' money on Ebay, there's one just sold as a 'best offer' for £9.33 plus £21.19 to post? There are a couple on ebay at the moment and prices are low enough to grab a bargain.
Best of all, you can still buy film for these old 'film' cameras and start taking photographs. They are easy to find in 'working' condition so taking photo's should not be a problem.

Vintage Glass lantern Slides

Whilst looking for things to sell to raise funds for my 'short' college course, I came across some old glass slide photographs. I cannot remember where I bought them from, some auction or other?

Although I have owned them for some time I never really looked at them closely until now. On the corner of each is a label " Makers Newton & Cairns 43 Museum St. London WCI". I had to remove a little of the surround to reveal this label.
I did a little research and all I could find at first was a website with the following information and it looks like Cairns was Recorded as a daguerreian in Hillsborough, N.C. 1850. Newton was listed as a daguerreian in Hillsborough, N.C., 1857
Not sure if this was the correct 'makers' and having looked for more information found a listing in a auction catalogue that read:
  • Magic Lantern and glass slides c1900, consisting of Lantern by Newton & Co Makers London W.I. and approx 200 glass slides of Europe some Australia.
I then found a web site that identifies the business address and the company and this looks more like the actual 'makers'. Its an interesting read and its about three quarters of the way down the page.
On one of the glass slides is a sign which reads "Herbesthal" which if correct is in Belgium.

I will have to see what else I can find but have to get on with Ebaying for the time being. I did find this nice old illustration of a vintage cinema projector in an old 1930's book that I was 'breaking'.

What do you think of it 'framed' its only a 'mock' up using a framing suppliers website but I think its neat. I was thinking of selling the print on my Ebay along with some old advertising I have for cameras. Its been a while since I have bought any old film cameras or photography equipment but will be at an auction this weekend so who knows?

Twelve Old Films!

I have been doing some detective work regarding the old films I mentioned before and have discovered a couple of things. On the one box is written "Nafooey" or it looks like the word "nafooey" which if correct is a place in Ireland?
Vintage Kodak Panatomic Film
One of the other boxes has written on it the word "enigal"? Not sure if that's right and cannot find anything on google or google maps, will have to keep looking.
Vintage Kodak Panatomic Film
There are ten films pictured here and the other two are in the Ilford Tonelle box wrapped in black paper.
Vintage Kodak Panatomic Film
It looks like some of the film are photos of Ireland, possibly holiday photo's, who knows but as they are all from the 1930's it will be interesting to see whats on them. They may not even develop because of their age but it will be interesting to see.

Almost went to college!

I was planning to attend a college course and learn how to develop old films but could not afford to at this time. Its only a short course, one evening per week for eight weeks  and hopefully I will attend the next course. The reason I wanted to go was, apart from learning how to develop old film, I could develop some old film I own.
At the beginning of the year I bought a box full of old photography equipment, I think I have mentioned this before, and amongst the contents were a load of old films. Twelve to be exact and all dating from the 1930's which has got to be worth developing?
They may not even develop but it would be interesting to see whats on them? The box I had won at a local auction looked to be from one source and amongst the 'goodies' was also some old glass slides.
Ironically,it was cheaper to attend the course than to send these off to be developed plus I get to learn something new, who knows I may even start developing my own film! Oh well! I will get round to it soon.

MOVIE TOP LITE

The movie Top Lite manufactured before 1962 by Cine Accessories (Brighton) Limited who were manufacturers, importers and distributors. The light would work with most cine cameras due to the universal screw-tight arm that formed the two into a 'compact' unit.
The lamp fitting used two 375w lamps and  this gave the same exposure as with four 500w lamps and slower film. It has an easy to hold grip which dismantles for packing and is supplied with 10ft of heavy duty twin flex cable.
This example is not in to bad a condition, the case has no cracks and the switch works fine. The plug and cable are all in good condition and the lamp holders are fully intact. The original box has damage and the one lid has been torn off (still have the lid) and there is a small tear on the side.
I have not been able to try this out because of the three pronged plug and lack of bulbs but it looks in a good enough condition to work. The lamp is dirty though and would require a clean, most of the 'grime' will clean off but not sure about the 'grime' on the handle.

Its surprisingly light when set up and even with this Bell & Howell Autoset II fitted, it does not feel to heavy.

Its been a while!

Well, like always, 'its been a while' but I thought I would plan a trip to Europe on a shopping spree buying old cameras and the like. My plan is to sell off everything I have to raise some of the funds to go. I will be doing this on my Ebay, I don't have much photography equipment, hence the trip!

If I find anything of interest I will post here and on my Ebay site for sale. I hope to do some of this whilst travelling, I only plan to go for a week max.

With a little luck I may even get to 'blog' whilst on the move and tell you all about my adventures, or lack of them. Last time I drove to Europe I drove right the way across the centre of France down to the Mid Pyrenees, which was a great time. Sadly, I did not get time to stop to take a look at the wonderful antique shops. This time I intend to because there were many that caught my eye.

If you if you are on the look out for something then please let me know and I will do my best to find it at a price you can afford.

Apart from the shopping spree I hope to have some time to take some photo's, I have an old camera which I will be taking with me. Hopefully get some good photographs especially this time of year.

Anyway, thanks for those for reading my blog and apologies for not posting that often. Probably a good thing!

OLD FILM AND VARIOUS

Its been a while since posting anything, I have been 'posting' a lot recently but the ebaying (charliequins) sort, packing and posting old film and various other photography things. I picked up a box of assorted items from an auction and did not realise what I had at first.
I recognised so many of the things, film, chemicals and compounds for developing films and of course the 'Ablon' film cutter. What I did not realise was the demand for such things and how 'sort' after they are but I should of guessed because the majority of them were dated around the 1930' & 40's.

Its been an enjoyable couple of weeks selling these nice old collectibles, apart from the profit I have learnt a lot about them and what they do. Its obvious most of the time like the Samuel Jones tape dispenser above but sometimes it took a bit of detective work. Plus you have to be careful especially with the 'chemicals' and its not advisable to handle them without gloves.
I learnt this when I was setting up the above photo for ebay (charliequins), as you can see the 'Rytol' accelerator has leaked. When some of it came into contact with a very small cut I had on my finger, caused by trying to open a rusted camera back but that's another story, it made me jump. Thankfully it was nothing to bad, like putting vinegar on a sore but it could of been because they used to use, probably still do, some volatile chemicals in the 'darkroom'.
In amongst it all was this nice old lens by Dallmeyer and I was sad to 'let this go', I guess that's the always the case and you are either a 'collector' or a 'dealer'. Plus I have to many things as it is and my intention as always been to buy and sell such wonderful things. Anyway, back to the lens and although its showing signs of age I reckon the 'patina' gives it more character.
Plus, look at the 'work' that has gone into making this, its over 70 years old and the shutter blades worked like new. I also learnt another valuable lesson and that's 'don't take things apart' especially if you do not know what you are doing. There was some dust on the inside of the lens and so I thought I would see if I could clean it by taking it apart. Firstly, I went the wrong way so to speak and opened up the front by removing the very small, almost impossible to see, screw. Big mistake especially when all was required was to twist of the back piece. It was so well engineered that I could not see that you could do this but at least I will know in the future. I did manage to put it back together again but unless you have a good magnifying glass and a very steady hand, I would leave it to the professionals.
Talking of leaving I have to go and do some more 'posting', I will leave you with one last photograph and this was also 'in the box'. I like this photo and he looks like a soldier from the first world war. I guess this glass slide photo has not seen the light of day for many a year, it was in a small box along with some others. What a great photo I thought and what a 'pose' and I wondered what he was thinking.

Petri 7 35mm Rangefinder Camera with 45mm F2.8 and Case

All the functions work perfectly on this Petri 7 'Circle-Eye System' camera and is ideal for a collector or photographer. The PETRI 2.8 45mm lens is pristine, no scratches or fungi. The shutter blades are oil free and they are very responsive on all speeds. The light meter is working fine and the vintage camera's film compartment is very clean.
The camera case is in good condition, no scratches or dinks and stamped underneath is 'Made In Japan', the camera is also supplied with the original Petri lens cap.
The leatherette is in good condition, just a little wear on the back but nothing to noticeable. The original Petri leather ever ready case is in good order, just a little wear and the 'stud' at the back requires a little attention.
All in all, a great vintage camera considering its age and ideal for 'film' photography or to add to your collection of 35mm Rangefinder cameras.

Camera 35mm ILFORD Sportsman VARIO + case

SALE AT MY EBAY 2011

I am selling this vintage Ilford Sportsman camera on my website charliequins. It has a Dacora 1:2.8/45mm lens thats clean and has no scratches or fungi. The Vario shutter is in good working order, fires on all speeds, the shutter blades are very clean and responsive.

The film winder winds on smoothly and the viewfinder is very clean, almost as good as the day it was made in 'Western Germany'. The silver chrome finish has a very nice patina from general use, no nasty scratches or dinks and internally its very clean.
The leatherette is in very good order, even underneath although this could do with a little attention. It has lifted on the one end and requires re-glueing, a quick and easy job I would do myself but don't have any glue.
The leather case is in very good condition, the stitching is all good and the strap is good with just some wearing and thinning.
Ideal for a camera collector, 'film' photographer or as a long term investment.

Olympus Cameras & Equipment

Olympus OM10 35mm SLR Camera.
The Olympus OM10 camera was first sold in 1979, the OM10 was simple to use and accurate enough for most lighting situations. Production of the OM10 ceased in 1987 and many working examples are still being used today.

The Olympus OM10 camera accepted the full line of OM lenses and most of the OM accessories are easily sourced and can be in-expensive to buy. This makes the OM10 ideal for any photographers out there who wish to try out 'film' photography.

I have 2 Olympus OM10 cameras and Olympus accessories and have been trying them out and the results are impressive. The camera and equipment was very simple to operate and would be ideal for a beginner.

The quality of the photographs are very impressive, the colours are very vibrant and using the various lens was very easy. If you have never used a 'film' camera before then you do not know what you are missing. All of the photographs below were taken with the OM10's  and various  lens I currently have for sale.

I was initially put off by the 'hassle' of film photography, the cost and having to wait anxiously to see the results. However, I find it all 'part of the fun' and if you make a little effort then you will not be dissapointed. In fact, even the cost compared to digital processing was suprisingly cost effective especially if you are prepared to wait.

The great thing is recieving the prints and seeing the result and if you take a little time to set up the photo then you will be impressed. Even 'snapshots' can be taken quickly and hardly any effort, focusing the lens and reloading is very simple. the Photo below is of my dadI I was showing him the camera and for an impromtu 'snap', I was pleased with the results.

I did end up with around four or five blurred and out of focus photos of the first film. Also, a couple of photos were on the dark side especially the 'indoor' photos. This was down to me not the camera because I am still learning.

The end results for the photos I took a little time and thought, impressed me and has given me confidence to continue with 'film' photography. Its never going to replace digital but at least now I have some great photos (my humble opinion) to frame. I have thousands of 'digital' photographs residing on my laptop and how many of them will ever make it to print?

It would cost me a small fortune to have all my digital photographs printed plus it would take a lot of time. At least with 'film' photography you get the 'hardcopy' first and with a scanner you can have it on the laptop quickly and easily.

So, now I am off to look for more things to photograph. Meanwhile, I do have a selection of old and vintage 'film' cameras plus lens, equipment, all for sale at very reasonable prices.
